Jamshedpur, Feb. 4: The club known as Safety Awareness For Everyone (SAFE) has published a traffic manual for all city schools.
The guide, called the Road Safety Manual, is especially meant for schoolteachers and would be soon a part of the curricula and special lessons.
The manual stresses that all road accidents can be averted if a little bit of caution is exercised on the roads. It also emphasised on the need for schoolchildren to learn how to take care of themselves and their bikes and cycles on roads. The manual has been published with the help of Tata Steel and contains six sections meant for nursery to Class XII students. It also traces with concrete and scientific explanations the cause behind road accidents. Some 65 schools are expected to benefit from the manual in the first phase of distribution. There are also plans to translate the manual into Hindi and distribute it among Hindi-medium schools.
“Youth brings with it a sense of bravado and students of Classes X, XI and XII are vulnerable to it. Not only the SAFE club, but 18 principals of the city, thus have also contributed to the book with their suggestions to avoid situations that may prove to risky. The manual is not just for students, for teachers, too,” said Ambika Tenneti, the co-ordinator of the SAFE club.
