Two youths were sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life on Friday for bludgeoning a transport company employee to death in Jamshedpur five years ago.
Dara Bhuiyan (24) and Rajesh Lohar (23) had attacked 20-year-old Deepak Kumar Das with iron rods and a boulder at Junglee Basti in Sonari police station area on September 16, 2007. The victim was left to die.
Police had registered a case of murder against the duo on the basis of an eyewitness Bijay Kumar, who was a passer-by. Both Dara and Rajesh were arrested from their Junglee Basti homes and the murder weapons recovered. Personal enmity was suspected to be the reason behind the killing, but police failed to establish the motive .
Finally, the court of third additional district judge decided that conviction was possible because there was an eyewitness, who had extended all support to the prosecution during trial. After the sentence, Dara and Rajesh were sent to Ghaghidih Central Jail in Karandih.
