Jamshedpur: Over 4.5 lakh people in major Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam-serviced areas in and around Jamshedpur suffered intermittent to long power cuts from Sunday night throughout Monday due to overhead cable repairs between Chandil and Golmuri power grid substation.
Around 4 lakh people in Mango, Karandih, Chhota Govindpur, Jugsalai, Bagbera, Sundernagar and Birsanagar, as well as 40,000 more in Ghatshila and Potka, faced power cuts. In some places, load-sheddings kept happening throughout the day. Some others areas endured lengthy blackouts of up to over three hours.
A JUVNL source revealed explosions at some stone mining sites in Chandil damaged overhead cables and conductors of JUVNL. Cable repair and conductor replacements will continue on Tuesday for normal supply to resume by evening.
General manager of JUVNL Singhbhum electricity supply area Amarnath Mishra said ongoing repairs prompted them to go for prolonged load-shedding. "It will take another day. We are hopeful that normal power supply will be restored by Tuesday evening," he said.
Residents in affected areas pointed out many problems.
"In winter, no one needs ACs and fans. But, everyone needs water. We could not run the water pump," said Surekha Mishra of Dimna Road in Mango. Mohan Singh of D'Costa Road in Jugsalai said they could not run the geyser.
