Jamshedpur, Jan. 5: Records are meant to be broken.
The first day of the CBSE National Athletics Meet saw two record-breaking performances. Navjot Singh from Budha Dal Public School in Patiala created a new record in the triple-jump for boys (in under-19 section) at the sports meet, which kicked off at the JRD Tata Sports Complex here today.
Singh jumped 14.18-m to improve the earlier record of 13.94-m.
In the girls under-16 category javelin throw, Anju of Shah Satnamji School in Sirsa excelled by creating a new record of 33.40-m here today. Anju broke Gurshar Simran’s record, who incidentally is from the same school. Simran’s record of 31.40-m was created in 2005 in Bhopal.
Asian Games bronze medallist and steel city’s very own Sinimole Paulose also holds a meet record in the CBSE nationals in the 800-m category. She clocked 2:16:6 minutes in the event while she was in Mahatma Gandhi Public School in Kerela. The record stands even today.
In the other events, Karamvir from GRD Academy in Ludhiana secured the first position in the shot put for under-19 boys. His throw covered 13.79 metres. Deepak of Shah Satnamji in Sirsa secured the second position.
In the 1,500-m for boys (under-19 category), Jaskirat S. of MR Singh Police School in Phillaur clinched the first position while Lakshya of Modern Public School in Bhiwadi clinched first position in the long jump for boys in the under-14 category.
In the 1,500-m race for girls (under-19 section), Liksy Joseph of Labour India Public School in Kottayam emerged winner while Brajesh Patel from H.E. Viram in Bhopal was crowned winner in the 1,500-m race for boys (under-16 section).
Kupan Bansal Remal of Public School in Rohini (Sector III) secured lead in the 1,500-m girls’ under-16 category, while Pinki of Cambridge International in Birar was the best performer in the long jump for girls under-14 category.
