Dhanbad: A final-year BTech student of BIT-Sindri has set a record, bagging the highest package of Rs 9 lakh per annum, pointing at an improved placement scenario this year.
Ten third-year students were also selected for an one-year internship programme by Tata Steel at an annual package of Rs 11.2 lakh per annum.
Saurabh Kumar, a mechanical engineering student, has been lapped up by BYJU's The Learning App, an Android application that makes maths learning contextual and visual.
Talking to The Telegraph, Saurabh said that he had appeared for the final round of interview on December 23 along with 250 other engineering students from across the state, including six from BIT-Sindri.
"I will be placed in Bangalore and have been asked to join around April," said Saurabh.
According to BIT-Sindri placement in-charge Ghanshyam Rai, as many as 116 students have so far bagged jobs in the placement drive that started in November last year.
"As many as 42 computer science and IT students have been lapped up by TCS, Wipro and Hafele India for an annual package of Rs 3.54 lakh and Rs 3.3 lakh, respectively. Overall 14 students of electrical engineering have bagged jobs in Tata Steel, Vedanta Limited and Jamshedpur Continuous Annealing and Processing for an annual package of Rs 5.81 lakh," said Rai.
Besides, 11 metallurgical engineering and 10 mechanical engineering students have secured jobs in several companies for Rs 7.6 and Rs 6.5 lakh per annum, respectively. Seven mining and as many electronics and communication engineering students have secured jobs for a pay package of Rs 7.9 lakh and Rs 3.68 lakh per annum, respectively.
Twelve chemical engineering and production engineering students bagged jobs for an annual pay package of Rs 7.95 lakh, while three electrical engineering students secured jobs in Vedanta and Larsen & Toubro for Rs 5.2 lakh per annum.
"Several other companies like Essar Steel, Jindal Steel and Power, Tata Hitachi and Bhushan Steel are expected to visit the campus in the coming days," added Rai.
