Jamshedpur, April 29: Five schools in Bistupur doubled up as ration card application centres today, as civic bodies resumed the drive that was postponed following the April 25 violence in Mango.
The exercise, which also began in the Jugsalai municipal area yesterday, was peaceful. Forms will be made available till May 3.
“We have sufficient forms for all families of the district this time and will ensure that every household has access to a new ration card,” said Birendra Bhushan Singh, special officer (rationing), East Singhbhum.
Interestingly, the forms are being distributed under the supervision of local MLAs in the absence of elected civic representatives. But the legislators are using the opportunity for some vote bank politics.
While BJP leader and Jamshedpur East MLA Raghubar Das has introduced a system of home delivery of forms for families who fail to turn up, Jamshedpur West MLA and Congress leader Banna Gupta is targeting Mango voters. He had allegedly held back the drive in Bistupur, a BJP stronghold.
