Raid leaves Sinha unfazed

The raids at the residence and business establishments of prominent neurophysician K.K. Sinha has left many shocked. Not because of the recovery of Rs 2 crore (slightly over that), fixed deposits worth Rs 1.6 crore, documents related to bank accounts and real estate investments, but because this was all that was recovered!

While Sinha himself remains unfazed about the whole episode, the reaction by the others is understandable. After all, the general and strongly-held belief was that Sinha was worth at least Rs 25 crore. In fact it was based on this belief that the raid was conducted. But thanks to it, the myth stands broken.

Rattled doctors

The raid may have left Sinha unfazed, but it has badly rattled the other doctors in town. A doctor, who had agreed to speak to a scribe cancelled the appointment at the last moment, saying he would rather put it off till the IT raids subside.

'Now I do not want to be in the limelight. Who knows, frustrated by the small recovery from Sinha, the IT guys may train their guns on me,? he politely explained to the journalist!

Some sight!

The members of the Bustee Vikas Samiti (BVS), who had gathered in front of the deputy commissioner?s office recently may have come well prepared with their demands for ownership rights of 86 slums, but they seem to have forgotten to prepare themselves for something very basic during this season ? the rain!

Most of them were left desperately stranded there without umbrellas as heavy showers lashed down the city. And if one thinks that those who had been sensible enough to carry umbrellas were feeling lucky, it was not the case at all. What followed was a chaotic tussle for umbrellas as members didn?t hesitate to snatch umbrellas from those who had them so as to escape getting drenched. What it all led to was a frantic tug-of-war of sorts. With each trying to prove his might in this war of the umbrellas it was a real sight!

It?s just a slip

The occasion was the inauguration ceremony of the VIth Jharkhand State Sub-junior Basketball Championships at JRD Tata Sports Complex and the chief guest was the state?s finance minister, Raghubar Das.

The event also commemorated the initiation of ?Van Mahotsav?, and Das gave an impressively long speech on the importance of forests and sports in our lives.

Somewhere in between he seems to have forgotten what he was there to inaugurate! When he very confidently announced how important the game of volleyball was, some of those present couldn?t help breaking out into a few giggles at the minister?s slip of tongue.
