A 14-year-old Pakur boy has been arrested by the Calcutta police for allegedly sending “mischievous” emails to media houses in the wake of the Delhi High Court blast on September 7.

A Class IX student of the local DAV school, Sunny Shukla, and his businessman father Prithvi Nath Shukla were summoned by the Calcutta police on Tuesday morning for interrogation.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Pakur superintendent of police A. Khanna said the Calcutta police did not contact their Pakur counterparts and instead spoke to the boy’s parents directly.

“The district police were not taken into confidence,” Khanna said, adding that the family lived in Haatpara locality. He added that authorities at the boy’s school had said that Sunny was a good student who was also tech savvy.

According to special task force (STF) sources in Calcutta, Sunny sent two e-mails to media houses claiming responsibility for the Delhi High Court blast, posing as a member of the Indian Mujahideen.

Additional commissioner of police (STF) Rajiv Kumar told reporters that though the boy had been arrested for sending the emails, interrogation had convinced the police that the e-mails were sent mischievously and Sunny had no connection with terror groups and was not responsible for the Delhi High Court blasts.

Sunny sent the mails from the ID chotoominani5@gmail.com.

Earlier, the police had said the mails were sent from a BlackBerry, which uses encrypted technology. Sunny apparently used two SIM cards, one issued in Bihar and another in Calcutta. He also told the police that he had no ulterior motive and the mails were a prank.
