Ranchi: The residents of Vinod Vihar, a refined neighbourhood of 25-odd residential blocks in Ward 36, are happy to have got concrete electric poles installed in their locality.

Till now, bamboo poles were being used to pitch overhead power lines in the locality, exposing citizens to unwarranted risks.

However, Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited (JBVNL) took serious note of the problem and swung into action after The Telegraph highlighted it in a report titled "Power privilege and reality poles apart" on August 9.

Local resident Sujit Ram, who runs a transport business, said the work started on August 13 and was still in progress.

"The first concrete pole was installed at the place whose photo was published in The Telegraph. So far, two poles have been put up and three more will be installed soon. However, I think one more will be needed in the locality to carry the overhead wires to my plot," Ram said, thanking The Telegraph for highlighting the problem and appreciating the JBVNL team for responding positively to the news.

Junior engineer of JBVNL Anil Kumar, posted at Ashok Nagar office, attributed the delay to the narrow entrance to the locality.

"The narrow access road to the locality created problems for us. However, we managed to carry the pole and start the installation work. Very soon more poles will be put up. We have also got directives from our seniors to get the work done soon," Kumar said, adding JBVNL takes the problem of the consumers very seriously.
