Bokaro, Feb. 18: Upscale flats of Bokaro Steel have forcibly been occupied by 89 police officers for years although the estate court passed an order for eviction recently.
Some of these personnel — including additional superintendent and deputy superintendent rank officers — have grabbed two flats each in different sectors with paying neither the house rent nor the electricity cess to BSL.
The officials — posted in Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Hazaribagh, Chatra, Palamau, Dumka, Deoghar and Dumka — have even started threatening BSL management of dire consequences if there was any step to evict them.
Some of them have even joined the Bihar force after cadre division but they did not bother to vacate the illegally-occupied flats.
While some police officers are genuine occupants of the 100-odd flats allotted by BSL under police pool, some others have grabbed BSL quarters in a show of might. Many of the inspectors and deputy police superintendents have put their flats on rent to students for a hefty amount.
These illegally occupied flats are in sector IA, sector 2A, sector 3A and 3B 4D, 4E, 4F, 6B, 6D, 8B, 9A, 9D, 11C, 12 A, B, and C, camp I, camp II and Ellora Hostel on the Bokaro-Dhanbad road.
Few years ago when complaints were lodged with then police superintendent Anil Palta, he ordered for suspending half-a-dozen such cops. While all of them pleaded more time to vacate the flats but they never did before Palta was transferred.
According to the list released by BSL deputy general manager (security) S.P. Singh, cases were filed in the estate court against 89 police officers and eviction order was passed against 77 cases while the proceeding of the rest is in progress.
A copy of the list was also sent to former Bokaro police superintendent Manvinder Singh Bhatia a couple of weeks ago. Just before being transferred to Ranchi, Bhatia said he had directed the illegal occupants through registered letters to vacate the flats, which were forcefully under their possession giving them two weeks’ time.
Now as Priya Dubey has taken over as police superintendent the ball is in her court.
Meanwhile, BSL officials have sent letters to the police headquarters with a copy of the estate court’s eviction order dated January 18.
