Ranchi, Oct. 17: DAV Nandraj Public School seems to have a penchant for being in the news for the wrong reasons.

In a startling revelation by the Provident Fund (PF) commissioner’s office here today, the school authorities have been alleged of swindling money from the CBSE and forging seals and signatures of the PF officials for depositing amounts which never were.

Sources at the PF office today told The Telegraph that the school management had sent a fake challan to the CBSE in October 2004, declaring that they have been regularly depositing provident funds of the teaching and non-teaching staff at the PF office when, in reality, they weren’t.

It was only when the provident fund office mounted pressure on the school that it deposited Rs 18 lakh in lieu of the provident fund of the employees.

DAV Nandraj was in the eye of the storm sometime back, too, after the authorities were caught guilty of committing fraud to fulfil the CBSE norms and bag affiliation for the school.

Senior police superintendent Raj Kumar Mallick admitted that they have started to look into the matter.

“An FIR has been lodged in this connection at the sadar police station and we expect to come up with some information soon,” he said.

The irregularities, the sources further said, were brought to the fore by assistant provident fund commissioner T.K. Mukherjee.

“The commissioner received a complaint from a teacher of the school and started investigations in his capacity. He found the allegations to be genuine and reported the irregularities to the police on October 6,” the source added.

Officials at the sadar police station said they will not take any coercive action against the school management unless the investigations are over.

“We shall proceed with legal action only after questioning the bank officials and the school principal,” a police officer added.

Secretary of DAV Nandraj Prem Prakash Arya, however, denied having any information in this regard.

“S. Biswas was the headmistress of the school when the alleged irregularities were done. It is not possible for us to comment on the matter without receiving any document from either Biswas or the CBSE,” he added.
