Jamshedpur, Aug. 16: The 61st Independence Day was celebrated with usual fervour in the city.
District administration, industrial houses, schools and colleges took a pledge to make the nation stronger.
Revenue and land reforms minister Dulal Bhuiyan unfurled the Tricolour at Gopal Maidan amid a large gathering. Deputy commissioner Rabindra Kumar Agarwal and superintendent of police Naveen Kumar Singh were also present. The minister also inspected a guard of honour.
School children pre- sented a colourful cultural show and sang the national anthem with pride.
Tata Steel managing director B. Muthuraman unfurled the Tricolour on the company premises while S.B. Borwankar, plant head of Tata Motors completed the formalities at the Sumant Moolgaokar Stadium in Telco.
Security personnel, school children, Yuvak Dal and Kishore Dal took part in the parade. Employees of Tata Motors, Telcon and other units were present along with their families.
Independence Day was also celebrated at DAV Public School (Bistupur), Vig English School, RVS Academy, Delhi Public School (DPS), Chinmaya Vidyalaya and several other institutions. DPS principal Dhananjay Pan unfurled the national flag on the new school premises of Turiabera. The event was made momentous by a special parade. A cultural programme Sarfaroshi was also presented by students of pre-primary, primary and senior sections. Gopalan, the former secretary of Shiksha Prasar Kendra, Tata Motors, unfurled the Tricolour at Vig English School, while at RVS Academy, school chairman Binda Singh took charge.
Chinmaya Vidyalaya also celebrated the occasion. Abhijit Mitra, general manager (operations), Tayo Rolls, unfurled the national flag here with school principal Chaitali Roy delivering a welcome speech.
The Tricolour was also unfurled at several other places including Jamshedpur Women’s College and Jamshedpur Co-operative College. Youths displayed a show on motorbikes. Sports tournaments and patriotic song competitions marked the occasion.
