Daltonganj (Palamau): Palamau Tiger Reserve (PTR) is now bringing before adventure buffs a little-known delight of the wildlife sanctuary, Maromar, 60km away from here.
Scenic and unspoilt Maromar, barely 35km from Betla, will charm tourists with elephant sightings and greenery, said PTR field director M.P. Singh.
"Tourists should know that the famed Betla, some 27km from Daltonganj, is not the beginning and the end of PTR. They should discover the charms of Maromar too."
Asked how one can reach Maromar, he said it was well-connected with two railway stations and the state highway. "One can get down at Daltonganj or Burwadih stations, and hire a cab to Maromar. Daltonganj station is 60km away and Burwadih barely 15km."
Singh added that it was always a pleasure to travel far and deep in any wildlife reserve.
"The whole of this region under Garu range is an elephant zone and tourists stand a fair chance of seeing elephants ambling about or uprooting bamboo shoots in clumps."
Asked that Betla has a police picket and CRPF officers, which make tourists feel safe, Singh said Maromar was also safe. "Security has never been a concern with Maromar. There is a full-fledged police station in Garu 12km away," he said.
He added they were improving residential facilities at Maromar for tourists. "So far, there was a guest house with two cosy rooms. Now, we have just readied a two-room tree house and another two-room tree house will be ready by winter," he said.
"All the six rooms will be well furnished. There will be a solar panel (for power back-up, water purifier and PTR staff to cook one's food of choice)."
When pointed out that tree houses had straight staircases that could look inviting to leopards and hyenas, Singh assured this paper that the structures had guards both in the daytime and at night.
