Ranchi Municipal Corporation has uploaded the capital's master plan on its website alongside the city's revenue maps to help residents identify their plots with khata numbers, a move that will go a long way to prevent fraudulent land deals.

"In November last year, the state cabinet had approved the revised master plan for Ranchi. But people are unable to understand how the new plan changed the nature of their plots. So, we have decided to superimpose RMC's revenue map on the master plan since we have already digitalised all revenue maps and uploaded it on our website," RMC commissioner Prashant Kumar said on Thursday at a function to commemorate the civic body's 38th foundation day.

Amid the presence of mayor Asha Lakra, urban development minister C.P. Singh, deputy mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargiya, BJP MLAS Jitu Charan Ram (Kanke) and Ram Kumar Pahan (Khijri) and others, RMC also launched an SMS service, titled Jaldoot Seva, to provide information about water supply to households for a monthly fee.

On the efficacy of the online master plan, Kumar explained that RMC, which was divided into 70 revenue villages, had uploaded 126 revenue maps with colour codes.

While yellow denotes residential areas, red is for commercial areas, green for open spaces, parks and gardens, golden yellow for land meant for composite use, violet for land meant for heavy, light industries and IT parks, deep blue for educational institutes, medical and health offices.

While Kumar said the online master plan would safeguard residents from unscrupulous land brokers, minister Singh lauded the RMC initiative.

"This project will serve many purposes. Earlier, getting a revenue maps of any area proved to be time consuming and tedious. Now, RMC will provide revenue maps of localities on payment of a nominal fee of Rs 500," Singh said.

On Jaldoot Seva, an idea RMC borrowed from Gulbarga Municipal Corporation, Kumar said residents would have to get their mobile numbers registered for the sms service, which would be charged at Rs 30 per month.

"Ranchi has no fix timing for water supply which is inconvenient for people. There are 33,000 valid water consumers registered with RMC. Under the scheme, half-an-hour before water is released, consumers will receive an SMS alert," he explained.
