A young girl has been crushed to death while two others of her family including her sister and father have been seriously injured when a coal laden tipper truck hit a motorcycle this afternoon on Dhanbad Sindri road at Baniahir in Jharia. The incident took place at around 1 pm when the family of three including Hiru Gorai, a resident of Karmatand and his two daughters, Lakshmi Kumri (21) and Santoshi Kumari (17) were returning to their home at Karmatand after attending a marriage function at Manpur village in Chandankiyari Block of Dhanbad.

Local residents and eyewitnesses who reached at the site informed Jharia police after the incident after which the police rushed the two injured persons for treatment at Sahid Nirmal Mahto Memorial Medical College and Hospital.

Bansidhar Ram, a neighbor of the deceased persons at Karmatand locality of Dhanbad said “the trio went to Manpur village yesterday to attend the marriage of a relative and returning back to their place when the accident took place due to which Santoshi Kumari died on the spot while Lakshmi and her father were seriously injured”

“The incident is the result of reckless driving of the tipper trucks of the private coal excavators by inexperienced drivers in violation of all traffic rules due to which the precious lives are being lost on daily basis” and charged the high speed tipper truck the hit the motorcycle from behind in the bid to overtake.

Manoj Kumar Sharma, a local resident of Baniahir locality of Jharia who is also a eyewitness of the accident said “ I was passing on foot through the area when I witnessed a tipper truck ramming into the motorcycle in high speed due to which one of victims sustained serious head injury as his head came under the wheels of truck and died on the spot while two other persons, including the driver of the motorcycle sustained serious head injury”

“The tipper truck driver didn’t stop at the site and in order to escape from the site sped the vehicle and hit another auto-rickshaw a few yards away near Indra Chowk but fortunately no one was hurt in the incident” said Sharma and demanded action against the tipper truck owners and drivers prevent such accidents in future.

Officer in Charge of Jharia, Pankaj Kumar Jha said “We have seized the tipper truck and launched a search for the driver of the truck.”
