Ranchi, Aug. 2: The government today filed an FIR against suspended zonal inspector-general of police P.S. Natarajan and two others, including a school teacher, for ?physical exploitation? of a tribal girl amid increasing clamour for the arrest of the police officers.
The Ranchi police, which had already sealed the flat occupied by the school teacher, today searched the apartment to gather clues. This is the flat where the sting operation was carried out with the knowledge of the girl.
Police sources said pornographic CDs and other documents had been recovered during the raid.
The developments followed the return of Ranchi?s city superintendent of police Suman Gupta from New Delhi after recording the girl?s statement.
The action coincides with toughtalk by chief minister Arjun Munda, who, before leaving for his foreign tour from Delhi, promised ?stern action? against the officers.
The FIR was lodged with the Lower Bazaar police station this evening against Natarajan, school teacher Madhupriya Ganguly and Rajesh Kujur, the second husband of the girl. Ganguly has been taken into custody.
Earlier in the day, director-general of police V.D. Ram called on Governor Syed Sibtey Razi and briefed him about the action being taken by the government against the police officials accused of exploiting the girl.
The FIR has been lodged under Sections 376 and 109 of the IPC and 3(12) of the SC/ST Act. Police sources said another FIR would be filed against former deputy inspector-general of police (Palamau range) Parvez Hayat in Daltonganj in a day or two. Hayat is now in Delhi on central deputation. Calls to his mobile phone went unanswered.
He refused Koel Karo deputy superintendent of police Prashant Karn has been made the investigating officer while Ranchi senior SP Anil Palta will supervise the case.
Palta said the tapes would be sent to forensic laboratories in Hyderabad and Calcutta shortly.
The girl has accused Ganguly of forcing her to ?please? Natarajan and give in to his ?carnal desires?. According to the statement of the girl, she had met Natarajan to complain against Hayat and he had assured her full help and cooperation. Natarajan, she said, had given her his mobile number and told her not to go to any police station.
The FIR talks about her husband Rajesh Kujur of continuously torturing her physically and mentally. According to the girl, her husband encouraged the officer to physically torture her. Natarajan, she said, forcibly raped her many times. Kujur, the girl said in her statement, used to help him in this act, arguing that the officer would compensate her with a job in the police department.
