Jamshedpur, May 10: Chaibasa-based Kolhan University today approved a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses to be taught at colleges under it.
The academic council gave the go-head at a meeting, the second one since the university was constituted.
Around 20 colleges had approached the university for starting new courses. However, 16 colleges that could satisfy the criteria set by it got permission. The council approved more number of courses today that it had done the last meeting six months ago.
“Before everything is finalised and the courses begin, the university will send an inspection team to check the available infrastructure. Colleges that have already been inspected can start the course right away,” said registrar of Kolhan University S.S. Razi.
Karim City College will now be able to start a postgraduate programme in mass communication for which inspection has taken place. The college will also introduce MCA, MSc in information technology and masters in psychology. The undergraduate courses are honours in geography, English and Hindi.
Graduate School College for Women has received the nod to start MCom, MA in political science and psychology while SP College, Chandil, will begin postgraduate courses in commerce, history and political science.Mrs KMPM Inter-College had proposed to start a degree course on water management, which has been approved by the council.
A few institutes and organisations also got no-objection certificates (NOC) from the academic council to start courses. Some of them are U.P. Sangh, Jamshedpur, which had applied to start bachelors in education. Kautilya College and Jaimitri College bagged NOC for LLB courses.
However, permission has to be first granted by the Bar Council of India.
Officials said the colleges were granted approval on the basis of faculty profile, number of students and their performance in past three years. The university has asked colleges to hire more teachers on an ad hoc basis to fill existing vacancies.
