Jamshedpur, Oct. 13: The teaching staff of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) here are protesting against the non-implementation of certain pro-employee measures of the ministry of human resource development by the institute?s board of governance.
To start with, they have started wearing black badges within the technical institute?s premises as a mark of protest. However, the board of governance has agreed in principal to fulfil some of the demands raised by the NIT teachers? association (NITTA).But the employees are resolute and said all their demands have to be met.
The association?s demands include the enactment of the MHRD?s order regarding the raising of the faculty retirement age to 62 years from the current 60, implementation of fifth pay scale in toto, medical facilities, group insurance and GPF according to the central government rules.
Sources said the board has agreed to extend LTC, restoration of quality improvement programme (QIP), medical facilities and the payment of pending arrears after the implementation of fifth pay commission. Sanjay Kumar, general secretary of NITTA, said although the demands have been partially met, the association would continue to protest till all of them were fulfilled.
The teachers? union has threatened to stop all academic and administrative work from December 12 if their demands were not met. The members of the association said the BoG was not implementing the central government?s provisions in toto.
Before the December 12 deadline, the teachers would sit on a dharna, and conduct a relay fast and stop administrative work.
