New HC judge to take oath tomorrow

Ranchi, April 9: Rajasthan High Court judge Prakash Tatia, designated to join Jharkhand High Court, will arrive in the capital tomorrow afternoon. Justice Tatia will take the oath of office in the high court on April 11.

Justice Tatia has been transferred to Jharkhand by the Supreme Court collegium to replace Justice Sushil Harkauli who has joined Madhya Pradesh High Court.

Justice Tatia will be the senior-most judge in the Jharkhand High Court after Chief Justice Bhagwati Prasad.

With Justice Tatia joining the bench, the total strength of judges will be 13. The high court has a sanctioned strength of 20 judges. Chief Justice Bhagwati Prasad, Justice J.C.S. Rawat and Justice D.K. Sinha are due to retire later this year.

Justice Tatia, a science graduate from Jodhpur University enrolled as an advocate in 1975. He practised civil, revenue, and constitution matters prior to joining the Rajasthan High Court.

Justice Tatia was elevated as a judge of the Rajasthan High Court on January 11, 2001.
