Jamshedpur, Oct. 30: Former chief minister Arjun Munda has threatened to launch an agitation if the drinking water crisis in Ghorabandha and adjoining areas is not solved.

Three years ago, Munda had drawn an action plan to solve the drinking water problem of Ghorabandha, Radhikanagar, Kartiknagar, Lohabasa, Barinagar and Kharangajhar by setting up the Ghorabandha Water Supply Project. When he lost the chief minister’s chair, builders started illegally drawing water from the Ghorabandha project for construction and for connections to apartments. It didn’t take long for residents to start complaining about water problems.

“Despite repeated pleas, the administration has failed to prevent builders from drawing drinking water for construction business from the drinking water project. This has been going on for a long time,” said the former chief minister, adding that he would launch an agitation if a solution is not found.

Munda had written to the secretary of the drinking water and sanitation departments, urging the authorities to ensure that the builders stopped drawing water from the drinking water project. But the letter has had little impact.
