Dhanbad: For seven-year-old Shiva, a rag-picker, Wednesday was the most memorable day of his life when he stepped out of his Chai Gadda locality and for the first time entered the swanky corridors of Inox Cinemas at Ozone Galleria Mall to catch a glimpse of his 'Singham bhaiya' on screen.
Like Shiva, 32 other kids of Chaigadda slum, were taken out on a movie date by Samadhan volunteers to catch the 12.39pm show of Ajay Devgan-starrer Golmaal Again.
The children, all students of Shahid Shashikant Pandey Vidyalaya - a school for slum kids near Dhanbad station established 18 months back by social outfit Samadhan - were accompanied by eight teachers and four volunteers.
"Yesterday we were told that we would be taken out for a movie in a multiplex. It was a dream come true. We laughed a lot throughout the movie and also relished the popcorn and cold drink that we were offered," said Shiva, son of a water vendor.
For nine-year-old Nita Kumari, being able to enter such a big multiplex and step on an escalator were something she'll cherish forever.
"I never imagined I would be able to enter such a spick and span place. I loved Ajay bhaiya and Parineeti didi in the movie. Also stepping on the escalator was so much fun. It was the best day of my life," said Nita, daughter of a milkman.
Samadhan founder Chandan Singh said the main purpose of the movie date was to give the children an exposure to the glamour world, who have always been living in penury.
"Around 80 children study in our school, which we run from an old and unused building of district education department. We heard Golmaal Again is a comedy film, so we thought of bringing smiles on the faces of these children," said Singh.
According to school in-charge Prateek Kumar, the transport and food cost were borne by Samadhan. "We are thankful to Samadhan members for gifting a memorable day to these children," he said.
