Sale season takes over |
Ranchi, July 23: It’s raining offers this monsoon, as almost all shops in the state capital are offering heavy discount.
Big players like Firayalal, Big Shop, Shoppers Mart, Big Bazaar, Citi Bazaar, Bargain Bazaar and Wool House are offering discount up to 50 per cent, while Pareek Brothers, Dresswala, Paridhan and Rangeela are offering discount between 10 and 50 per cent. The customers are also cashing in on the discount season.
Kavita Kapoor, a housewife, said: “I eagerly wait for the sale season to buy clothes for my family. But down the years, I have realised that the quality in all local shops is not good. Thus, I decided to visit shopping malls and buy quality items for my family.”
While the big shops are claiming that they are offering discount on fresh stocks, smaller retailers are trying to clear their old stock.
Rajendra Jain, the owner of Big Shop, said: “We are offering discount up to 50 per cent on different items. During the one-month sale, we try to give maximum benefit to customers and do not have the concept of stock clearance.”
But he did not deny the fact that the monsoon season is considered to be dull for traders. “Thus, this is the best time to have sales to boost business,” said Jain.
With big shops offering discounts, smaller players are also walking the same path to survive in the market. “We offer 10-50 per cent discount on our old stocks. In recent times, several garment shops have entered the market and offering attractive prices. We have to compete with them by offering discount,” said a spokesperson of Bijay Kumar & Brothers at Upper Bazaar.
Profit earned during the sale season is marginal. “We sell some products on the marked price. But we do get a chance to clear our old stocks. Right now, we are offering a heavy discount on shawls priced between Rs 60 and Rs 100,” said Vinay Kumar of Rangeela at Upper Bazaar.
Shops like Wool House are offering discounts on a range of items. “We are offering 20 per cent discount on general items and 25 per cent on fresh stocks. Fifty per cent discount is being offered on old stocks,” said a sales person of the shop, Pawan Burman.
However, Dwarikadish Vastralaya located at Upper Bazaar does not believe in sales. “We sell our products at low prices round the year. So, there is no use of offering a special discount,” said Pradeep Kumar, a salesperson.
