Ranchi, Aug. 5: While kids took the ramp in colourful outfits, moms participating in their own fashion show were “green” with pride.

The Sawaan Queen contest-cum-kids fashion show, which took place at the Union Club and Library today, brought mothers and kids on the same platform. Sulekha Banerjee (47) said: “Earlier, in-laws would not allow us to venture out of home. But now times have changed and our kids have also grown up. Then why should we not participate in such contests that allow us to showcase our talent.”

Around 25 women, both members and non-members of Nari Samiti, took part in the contest while their kids took on the ramp both alone and in a group.

Pallavi Basu, mother of Shambhavi Basu, a kindergarten student of Sacred Heart Convent, said: “It was a thrilling experience for my daughter. A contest for both mother and their kids is an excellent idea.”

There were many first-timers, who faced stage fright, too. For Alka Seth, a housewife, it was a first-ever experience. “I registered for the show in the last minute. I was only accompanying my daughter Shreya Seth when I decided to take part as well. The experience was good,” said Seth.

Another participant Anima Ghosh enthusiastically said: “My grand daughter has participated and now it’s my turn. Even at this age my energy has not waned. I am enjoying every moment.”

Ayushi Ayesha, a Class II student of St Mary’s School was also excited with the show, which was anchored by social activist Poonam Anand and judged by Rinku Banerjee.
