Jamshedpur, Nov. 15: Having got second language status, the Bengali community is now looking forward to setting up of an autonomous academy to showcase their culture in the state.
Come November 20, hundreds of Bengalis from all over the state are expected to visit the steel city for the second Jharkhand Bangabhashi Mahasammelan at the Netaji Subhas Maidan (also known as Aambagan) in Sakchi.
Several interactive sessions have been lined up for the mahasammelan to discuss the future of the language in the state and elsewhere.
A number of dignitaries are expected to participate in the Bangabhashi Mahasammelan seminar.
Though the first day of the two-day affair would have several interactive sessions, the open session on the second day would have stalwarts like author Sunil Gangopadhay, painter Suvaprasanna, academician Pabitra Sarkar and other members of the intelligentsia speaking on how to make the language more prolific.
The first day of the Bangabhashi Mahasammelan has been reserved to address more basic issues like improving the state of Bengali education in Jharkhand.
About 500 and odd schoolteachers will also meet on a common platform to discuss the fate of Bengali medium schools and education in the state.
?This session with teachers has been organised to get a basic idea of the state of the language in Jharkhand, moreover there would also be discussions on incorporating Bengali textbooks for school students and also on updating the syllabus of vernacular medium schools,? said Bikas Mukherjee, president of the Bangabhashi Samanmay Samiti, which is organising the mahasammelan.
The same day in the evening, the All India Co-ordination Committee members of the social outfit Sarva Bhartiya Samanmay Samiti will meet at the venue for a discussion on improving the condition of Bengali language across the country. ?We are expecting representatives from about 12 states of the country to attend Bangabhashi Mahasammelan seminar,? said Mukherjee.
Every representative will submit a report of the work carried out in their respecting states. The Bangabhashi Mahasammelan seminar will end with a performance by folk artiste Vijay Mahato on November 21.
Also on the menu of the Bangabhashi Mahasammelanis the drafting of a proposal giving suggestions for reviving the lost stature of Bengali language in Jharkhand, which includes the setting up of an autonomous Bengali academy to improve the language.
?This memorandum will be later handed over to the government,? Mukherjee said.
