Dhanbad, Feb. 14: Lovebirds celebrated Valentine’s Day across the district on a day when different organisations carried out their own agenda — either opposing or supporting the festivities.

Couples were seen at every other place, including restaurants, the newly inaugurated Birsa Munda Park and even in temples.

The celebrations went on despite an apparent lack of open space in the district. “Far from the prying eyes of parents and moral police, we had to find a suitable place to spend some time together with my partner,” said a student of Women’s College, requesting anonymity.

Activists of the Jharkhand Chhatra Morcha, celebrated the day in the Gandhigiri way and took out a rally and visited different spots, including restaurants and boating centre of Bekar Bandh, to offer roses to the couples. “Our gesture was aimed at spreading the message of peace,” said PK Roy Memorial College unit president of the JCM, Rishikant Yadav. He added that they would oppose obscenity in name of love.

Earlier, activists of Bajrang Dal opposed Valentine’s Day festivities and tied rakhi as a symbolic gesture to promote Indian culture.
