Many administrative offices of the health department were sealed in Lohardaga on Tuesday after the civil surgeon of the district tested positive for Covid-19, officials said.

The district administration has started testing health officials there on the basis of contact tracing of the civil surgeon, said Lohardaga deputy commissioner, Akanksha Ranjan.

“The offices where none of the health department employees tested positive have started functioning again,” she said.

The Lohardaga civil surgeon is undergoing treatment at Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Ranchi, officials said.

The Lohardaga administration has also put officials who worked at the civil surgeon’s office in quarantine.

Lohardaga police station has also been sealed after an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) from the police station tested positive for Covid-19.

“Lohardaga police station is a mini-containment zone now. We are testing the cops working out of the police station,” said Lohardaga superintendent of police Priyanka Meena.

As per government data, there are 21 active cases of Covid-19 infection in Lohardaga. As many as 75 suspects have tested positive for the virus in the district and 53 of them have recovered, officials said.

One Covid patient there died of a comorbid condition.
