Megha Ghosh: Right click |
This I-Day gave India a reason to smile online.
“Welcome to I See India. Dear guest, please click on ‘Pull Me’ to enter the world of happy India. Have a great day.”
Red curtains part to let the visitor into the world of good news online on www.iseeindia.com, a website launched on August 15 by three technocrats of BIT-Mesra from the class of 2010.
Brainchild of Megha Ghosh, BTech in electronics and computer engineering, and batchmates Aditya Ranjan and Arindam Chatterjee, who helped her create the site, she calls it the perfect portal to start the day on a positive note.
“The idea is to feel good about India. The site has success stories, entertainment and travel, among other bigger and smaller good things happening around us, but ignored by mainstream media,” Megha told The Telegraph from Calcutta, where she is now based.
The enterprising girl in her early twenties has even left her job with a telecom major in Gurgaon to focus on the website which has links such as Amazing India, Knowledge+, Entertainment, among others.
The number of hits (read visitors) in the past two days has been “encouraging” she said. “It’s around 50-100 hits per story,” she said.
With stories such as “Mitticool, an earthen fridge!” that describes the invention of one Mansukhbhai Prajapati of Wankaner, Gujarat, who “has developed the first terracotta refrigerator that works without electricity”, one on the Constitution’s original author Dr B.C. Roy, among others, it is no wonder that the website is breaking the clutter.
“The message is simple. Tired of coverage of the same old scams, crimes and mayhem? There is some food for thought. Take a pause to look only for good news, courtesy the website,” said Megha.
Asked on financial constraints in maintaining and running the website, she added: “So far, all the investment is from our side. But it is early days yet. As the website becomes more popular, I am sure it will generate advertising revenue.”
But she has full confidence in the site’s strong content. “In the days to come, I foresee many more visitors to the site, which has interesting content from across India,” she said.
