Jamshedpur, April 4: The singles events will see no representation from the state anymore as Bengal’s Harsh Gurnani defeated Mukesh Kumar Sharma in the under-12 quarter final of the Tata Steel All India Tennis Association (AITA) Talent Series Tennis Championship played at the JRD Tata Sports Complex here today.
In the under-14 section too, Mukesh lost his pre-quarter final match against third seed Nihal Singh of Bihar 3-6, 1-6 ending all hopes of a Jharkhand representation in the semi-final.
On the other hand, Nishant Rebello of Vishakhapatnam ousted fourth seed Sumant Lenka to enter the semi-final of the under-12 section. Top seeds Ansu Kumar Bhuyan of Orissa and second seed Md Azhar also reached the semi-final.
However, the only seeded player to be ousted in the under-14 section today was seventh seed Harsh Gurnani who was defeated by Md Azhar 0-6, 2-6.
In the under-12 section of the girl’s semi-final, Pooja Kudesia of Madhya Pradesh defeated Adrita Banerjee of Bengal.
On the other hand, Bengal’s Srijita Ghosh won against eight-year-old Ojasvinee Singh of Indore in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. In the girls’ singles under-14, unseeded Angana Mukherjee of Bengal reached the semi-final.
In the same section, the pair of Sutapa Banerjee and Monalisa Chakravarty from Jharkhand defeated Abhishikta Pandey from Uttar Pradesh and Srija Kodali from Andhra Pradesh.
However, the pair of local talents Mukesh Kumar Sharma and Ranjan Kumar Thakur were defeated by Arjun Patnaik and Nishant Rebello of Andhra Pradesh in the boys’ doubles under-14 pre-quarterfinal.
