The Lioness Club of Ranchi felicitated its members for their outstanding contribution to the club’s activities in the last year (July 2011-June 2012) at the Lions Hall in Ranchi Club on Wednesday.

The function also saw members donating stationery to Maher, a local non-governmental organisation that works for women and child development.

“This year, we organised visits to old age homes and orphanages in the capital. We want our members to be more involved in social work in the coming years,” said president of Lioness Club Geeta Ojha, highlighting the achievements of the organisation.

Chitra Singh, Lioness of the Year awardee, told The Telegraph that she has been associated with the club for three years and loves to serve elders and visit old age homes.

“Instead of watching soaps, housewives can utilise their time and energy by contributing to the welfare of society,” added Singh, a fashion designer.

“I have been part of the garbage clean up programmes that the club regularly organises for two years now. It is inspiring that housewives who come forward are recognised for their work,” said Sandhya Chaudhary, who won the Best Chairperson of the Year award.

While the award for Excellence was given to Sohini Roy, Madhusudan Maheshwari was chosen as the Best Lion Member. The Best Advisor award was shared by Poonam Anand and Rashmi Mehta. Past presidents and members of the Lioness Club were honoured at the function. Trophies and certificates were also distributed to active members.

“Felicitating not only gives members credit and recognition for their work, it also encourages new members to be actively involved in the club’s activities,” said Poonam Anand, club advisor and ex-president.

Chief guest for the occasion was Arun Kejriwal, regional chairperson of Lions Club, Ranchi. He lauded the work of the members and congratulated the awardees.

Geeta Ojha who held her last meeting as club president, announced that the 53rd installation and oath taking ceremony will be held on July 7, where the new president would be formally swore in.
