KPS hits bull?s eye, retains archery title

Jamshedpur, Sept 18: The archers of Kerala Public School (KPS) hit the bull?s eye to retain the fourth Inter-School Archery Championship held at the JRD Tata Sports Complex today.

Jamshedpur Public School (JPS) and Seraikela-Kharsawan Government High School finished second and third, respectively.

KPS bagged the title for the fourth time in succession.

T. Mukherjee, president, Jharkhand Archery Association, handed over the prizes. He also presented modern bows to five archers for their excellent performance in the championship.

The archers include Aakash Naik (Seraikela-Kharsawan Government High School) Jhanu Hembrom and Nikhil Kumar Tuti (both KPS), Sanha Farhaz (Oxford Public School, Ranchi) and Fudan Hembrom (Kandra High School).

The KPS archers put up a splendid show, bagging top slots in five individual and one team event. The outfit swept the boys? under-11 Indian round, with Nikhil Kumar Tuti, Rishav Pandey and Amrish Mahato claiming top three spots. Tuti emerged first with a score of 325 points.

Jhanu Hembrom of KPS won the first place in the girls? under-11 Indian round, edging out Swati Thakur of Baridih Girl?s High School and Anu Tiwary of Seraikela Government High School.

The school also reigned supreme in the boys? under-11 FITA round with Kishan Gandwa bagging the top slot. Pallav Raj of JPS and Abhudaya Srinet of Loyola stood second and third, respectively.

Lovely Gupta and Sumitra Mundiya brought smiles to the KPS bench again by standing first and second, respectively, in the girl?s under-11 FITA round, even as Ankita Tiwary of Vidya Jyoti School managed to bag the third position.

The KPS outfit also showed their class in the boys? under-14 FITA round, pocketing the first two slots through the exploits of Ratna Mardi and Kishan Gandwa.

The third place went to Mohit Mohanty of JPS.

Sudhakar Kumar and Lovely Gupta stood second in the boys? and girls? above-14 category, respectively. Sunil Murmu and Jhanu Hembrom also claimed third spots in the boys? and girls? Indian round.

Later, in the team event, KPS bagged the top slot in the boys? under-14 with 795 points and the second position in the boys? above-14 category.
