Jamshedpur, Jan. 6: More than 70 archery coaches from all over the country would pick up the finer points of coaching techniques during a seminar to be conducted by Park Kyung-Rae, one of the world’s top coaches, at the Centre for Excellence here tomorrow.
Organised by the Archery Association of India (AAI), the seminar would, apart from routine aspects of coaching, will focus on the technical aspects as well as modern equipment, which are in vogue.
Kyung-Rae is arriving early tomorrow morning to attend the two-day seminar.
Lim Chae Woong, the Korean coach of the Tata Archery Academy (TAA), would join Kyung-Rae in Calcutta. Archery Association of India (AAI) senior vice-president Paresh Mukherjee will also accompany them, officials of the Jharkhand Archery Association said.
A senior Indian coach said, Kyung-Rae, former chief coach of the Korean team, which won the Olympics and the World Championship, would emphasise on dynamic spine and speed tuning.
“The Indian coaches have no idea whatsoever about dynamic spine—which deals with the tuning of the arrow and the bow—as they have never been taught such things in the past,” he added.
According to the Indian coach, it was a good opportunity for the coaches to know something they have been unaware of for so long.
“The seminar will go a long way in brightening the scope of archery in the country. Kyung-Rae is one of the best coaches in the world and his inputs will certainly serve us better in the long run,” he said.
Secretary of Jharkhand Archery Association (JAA) Sanjeev Singh said the Korean coach, who also operated an archery equipment unit in Korea, was expected to delve into the equipment-specific aspects.
“Since, he heads an equipment manufacturing unit personally, he will be able to explain the logistics of the bow and arrow better than most of the coaches around,” Singh said.
Officials of the JAA added some of the SAI coaches who had come here for the recently-concluded 25th Junior National Archery Championship have stayed back for the seminar.
