
Jamshedpur: Kolhan University has set the ball rolling for its third student union election with vice chancellor Shukla Mahanty reviewing the poll process at a meeting held on the varsity campus in Chaibasa on Monday.
The university has decided to complete the election process - both in 16 constituent colleges and at the varsity - between November 13 and 23.
At the colleges, the elections will be for the post of have a president, vice-president, a secretary, deputy secretary, joint secretary and university representative.
The university representatives will then vie for the posts of president, vice-president, secretary, deputy secretary and joint secretary at the varsity level.
Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), Jharkhand Chhatra Morcha (JCM) and National Students Union of India (NSUI) are some of the major political parties that will contest the polls.
The colleges will publish the electoral list on November 11 followed by a final electoral roll on November 13. The last date for filing of nomination is November 14.
The final list of nominees will be displayed on November 16 following scrutiny.
The campaign for college elections will end on November 17. Voting and counting will take place on the following day.
The electoral list at the university level will be published on November 20 followed by a scrutiny and the final list on the same date.
Voting will take place on November 22 followed by counting and the result on the same day.
"The university is successfully conducting student elections for the last two years. This year, we will try to involve more students in the process. The university will form a committee to look after the election," varsity proctor and spokesperson A.K. Jha said.
Students are excited about the elections.
"Thankfully, the varsity has been consistent for the past few years. Earlier, we did not have an election," Ajsu activist Hemant Pathak of Jamshedpur Worker's College said.
