Ranchi, Nov. 8: Charged with money laundering, illegal investments and accumulating assets disproportionate to his known source of income, former chief minister Madhu Koda today denied any wrongdoing and said he was ready to face questioning by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Delhi later this week.
The former chief minister, who looked exhausted, was released from hospital at 11.45am after doctors declared him fit. “All the allegations against me are baseless. It would be better for the media to ask the income tax and ED officials what they have found after the raids,” said a wheelchair-bound Koda, as he left for his Deendayal Nagar home.
Asked about his relationship with Vinod Sinha, one of the prime accused in the alleged multi-crore scam, Koda said: “He is known to me but I share no business relationship with him.”
While Koda will appear before the ED on November 11, five others — Vinod Sinha, Sanjay Choudhary, Harendra Singh, Basant Bhattacharya and Bhim Singh — have been asked to appear on November 13.
Earlier, the ED had summoned three former ministers in the Koda cabinet, Kamlesh Kumar Singh, Bhanu Pratap Shahi and Bandhu Tirkey, between November 10-12. It has already taken Vinod’s brother Vikas into custody.
A group of waiting supporters from West Singhbhum district cheered as Koda arrived home. “It’s a conspiracy before the polls to malign his image. His stature is growing. So he has been targeted,” said Masoom Raza, a supporter.
ED officials were at present interrogating Koda at home. Tax additional director (investigation) Ajit Kumar Srivastava said another accused, Devendra Mukhiya, who was supposed to appear before the officials today, failed to do so. On Saturday, the tax authorities took possession of some files related to allotment of mining leases during Koda’s tenure as mines minister.
