Governor-cum-chancellor of state universities Droupadi Murmu on Saturday appointed four new vice chancellors — Ranchi University (RU) economics professor Ramesh Sharan for Vinoba Bhave University (VBU), RU physics professor Satyendra Narayan Singh for Nilamber-Pitamber University (NPU), VBU pro-VC Manoranjan Prasad Sinha for Sido Kanhu Murmu University (SKMU) and Jamshedpur Women’s College principal Shukla Mahanty for Kolhan University. Arguably the best known are Sharan and Mahanty, the former for being an acclaimed economist and the latter for her administrative prowess. Even as they prepare to take over their new duties, the RSS and its student outfit ABVP have expressed anger over Murmu appointing Sharan, a self-confessed “secular humanist” for his arguably leftist leanings.
