Jamshedpur Fest 2015 will kick off at Gopal Maidan on Saturday with a parade featuring vintage cars, jugglers and mascots.

Corporate houses like Tata Steel and Jamshedpur Hoteliers’ Association are organising the six-day festival that was earlier known as Jamshedpur Carnival.

After the parade marks the start of the event, which will step into its third year, a performance by Gandhi Ashram Philharmonic Orchestra will follow. Forty students from Kalimpong-based Gandhi Ashram School will mesmerise the gathering with some great music-making on violins.

A dance is also on the cards, to be performed by some of the best talents from city slums nurtured by Tata Steel’s urban services departmen. Later, a master chef competition among housewives will be held. It will continue on Sunday.
Ashish Mathur, managing director of Jusco, along with other distinguished people from various organisations, held a news meet on Friday to give details about the programme.

Hotelier-cum-Rotarian Ronald D’Costa, who was also present, said contingents depicting various Indian states, vintage cars, horses, dancers and an Indian Army band will be part of the parade. “We will have King Momo, who will inaugurate the Fest. In Latin America, King Momo’s presence signifies the beginning of any carnival. We have had King Momo in the last two festivals too,” said D’Costa.

An International Food Festival on the last day will be an added attraction. “It will be a food lover’s paradise. Continental, Chinese, Oriental, Italian and of course, Indian cuisine will be served,” said Smita Parikh, director, Fortune Park Centre Point Hotel.
