Ranchi, Oct. 13: Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) chairman D.K. Shrivastava today promised to fix technical glitches on the website to enable candidates for the combined civil services examinations, 2016, to submit application forms online.
He also urged the examinees to carefully fill up the forms so that there is no room for error.
After much deliberations, the JPSC has invited online applications from those who had last year applied for the sixth combined civil services examination, which was eventually deferred. Candidates under physically challenged category, who have to reappear for fourth and fifth combined civil services examinations because of some rule changes, will also need to submit the forms online.
Although the exam dates are yet to be decided, online submission of forms began on October 6 and will continue till 11.45pm on October 28.
However, not a single form has so far been submitted apparently due to technical faults on the JPSC website. The window meant for filling up forms does not open up, whereas other information related to recruitment exams such as eligibility criteria, revised syllabi and mode of payment of exam fees are available on the web page.
"Today also, we held a meeting and extensively discussed this issue. The anomalies will be rectified soon. Eligible candidates still have adequate time to submit application forms. If the need be, the last date for submitting forms will be extended," the chairman told The Telegraph.
Speaking about measures taken to ensure free and fair exams, he said the candidates ought to be very careful while filling up the forms. "We will prepare a database of the candidates on the basis of information furnished in application forms. They should also carefully go through the advertisements while ascertaining their eligibility criteria. Misleading information will lead to rejection of their application forms or even refusal of jobs," Shrivastava added.
Applicants for government jobs have no way of contacting the JPSC as none of the office telephone numbers given on its website or state government directory is functional. Security guards deputed at the JPSC gate don't allow anyone in without permission from a competent authority.
"I repeatedly tried to speak to JPSC officials either over telephone or in person for queries related to these exams, but in vain. I fear that like previous exams, this one may end up in a mess," rued Nurul Islam, who is aspiring for a white-collared job.
But Shrivastava argued that helpline numbers for assistance while filling up application forms had already been published through advertisements in newspapers. The numbers - 07042294208, 07042294209 and 07042294210 - are mentioned on JPSC website and are supposed to remain functional from 10am to 5pm on all working days.
But repeated calls to the numbers went unanswered.
