Jamshedpur, Dec. 3: A joyride from Purulia to Telco Colony for 55-year-old Parubala Dey and sister-in-law Ila Dey turned into a tragedy when the motorcycle on which they were travelling was hit by a speeding truck at Bhuiyandih Chowk in Sitaramdera. Parubala died on the spot.

Ila Dey (45) and driver Khokan Dey were seriously injured.

They were admitted to the MGM Medical College Hospital, where Khokan was released after first aid. His aunt Ila Dey was shifted to the Tata Main Hospital.

The police lifted the body of Parubala Dey from the site and sent it to the medical college mortuary for post-mortem.

The Hero Honda (Splendor) in which Khokan was ferrying his mother and aunt took a turn near Bhuiyandih Chowk when a truck zipping down from the Timken side rammed into it.

According to eyewitnesses, after hitting the bike, the truck ploughed into roadside kiosk.

But the truck-driver managed to flee the spot even before the truck came to a halt.

The shopkeepers and passers-by, who watched the accident and saw the truck driver flee, chased and apprehended him.
