Following a spurt in cases of mobile phone thefts and pickpocket at the Tatanagar railway station, the police on Wednesday nabbed two criminals by carrying out special drive at the railway station.

While in one of the case, the railway cop nabbed a 50-year-old man for committing pickpocket, in another case a 28-year-old youth was caught with two stolen smartphones.

Revealing about the breakthrough, inspector, Railway Protection Force (RPF), Tatanagar, Sanjay Kumar Tiwari said the first arrest was made at around 8 am on Wednesday after a passenger from Aasansol had complained about pickpocket of his wallet from the crowded platform No 1.

"Soon after getting the complaint, we got the CCTV footage scanned at the control room and detected the thief through the footage. Immediately after identifying the culprit, we put up checking at all the exits. Finally, the RPF team succeeded in nabbing the thief, " said Tiwari while talking to The Telegraph Online

The RPF inspector pointed out on being checked, the railway cops found two stolen wallets and a smartphone from the possession of the arrested person identified as Munna Choudhary.

Another thief was arrested soon after he had stolen two smartphones from the railway station premises this morning.

The RPF inspector said the arrest of the second thief identified as Raju could be possible within five hours of the first arrest due to the close monitoring of the CCTV control panel.

Finally, after two thieves were nabbed, the duo were handed over to the Government Railway Police, Tatanagar which subsequently forwarded them to the Ghaghidih central jail.
