Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren trumpeted his achievements in the 90 days after coming out of jail in an attempt to portray the BJP-led Centre in a poor light for putting him in judicial custody.

Hemant’s wife and Gandey JMM MLA Kalpana Murmu Soren joined the attack against the BJP by claiming that it has formed a “PIL gang” and files PILs in court to obstruct Jharkhand’s government welfare schemes. She also took a dig at the BJP’s leadership filling up form for ‘Gogo (Santhali word for mother) Didi Yojana’ promising 2,100 every month to women (as against 1,000 by the existing government) by stating that the BJP is merely filling up forms “while we have transferred third instalment of the amount to women beneficiaries account”. This is to suggest that the BJP was only copying the government’s scheme.

Hemant was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on January 31 this year after his resignation in an alleged money laundering case pertaining to a land scam and was in judicial custody in Ranchi before being released on bail after the High Court’s order on June 28.

Hemant and his party leaders have been accusing the BJP of using federal agencies to put him in jail for raising a “legitimate demand” of 1.36 lakh crore outstanding coal royalty dues from the Centre.

Hemant posted on X in Hindi, “It has been 90 days since I returned from jail and took charge of the state. In these 90 days, we have achieved some important achievements with the support of the people.”

Hemant mentioned the Jharkhand Mukhyamantri Mainya Samman Yojana which gives monthly assistance of 1,000 to women beneficiaries between 18 and 50 years of age. He mentioned that over 50 lakh beneficiaries have already received two instalments and the third instalment was released on Tuesday.

He also mentioned his government’s farmer welfare scheme by waiving off loans up to 2 lakh of farmers and granting farmers a bonus of 5 per litre in the purchase of milk. He mentioned his power reform policies under which 40 lakh families (domestic consumers) got free electricity up to 200 units each month. He also mentioned that the outstanding electricity bills of the 40 lakh families were waived.

On infrastructure development, he mentioned the inauguration of the state’s first transport nagar and completion of the Kantatoli flyover in Ranchi, the inauguration of roads and OPD service at hospitals and a 300-bed multispecialty hospital in Ranchi.
