Giridih, Nov. 25: The Jamshedpur team today won the inter-district under-17 title by defeating Ranchi by seven wickets at the final played at Giridih stadium.
The captain of Jamshedpur team, Maninder Singh Kalshi, was adjudged the man of the match for his all-round performance. The opener scored 57 runs and also took a wicket.
Ranchi, which had won its group matches at Lohardaga, the other venue of the tournament, could score only 129 in 50 overs for nine wickets.
Jamshedpur, in reply, comfortably reached the target in 30.5 overs at the loss of three wickets. Other than Kalshi, Sunil Kumar scored 22 runs for his team to lift the trophy.
Bowlers Ankit Sharma, Jas Karan and Rohit Singh of Jamshedpur took three and two wickets, respectively, to limit Ranchi to 129 runs.
Prakash Munda and Utakarsh were the top scorers of the Ranchi team, scoring 34 and 28 runs, respectively. The captain of the Ranchi team, Pappu Singh, took two wickets while Roshan Prasad took one for his team.
The Jamshedpur side had played four games in a row during the league matches before reaching the final. The team remained undefeated in the tournament and also won against most teams, including Hazaribagh, Deoghar and Koderma. Last year’s winner Bokaro was defeated by Ranchi in the semi-final.
President of Giridih district cricket association and superintendent of police Murari Lal Meena gave away the trophies along with Rs 5,000 and Rs 3,000 to the winners and runners-up, respectively.
