V-C firm on extension counter

Ranchi University vice-chancellor S.S. Kushwaha on Sunday said if the district administration was not able to vacate the premises alloted for the opening of the university’s extension counter at the earliest, they will open it in Jamshedpur Cooperative College. He was speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of an inter college badmintion championship.

Literary meet

Over 40 students from different schools of the city participated in a Hindi elocution contest organised by Sahyog, a city- based literary society. Shurya Upadhyay won the first prize while Pratyush Paujwani and Sourojeet Chakravarty bagged the second and third prize respectively. Ram Krishna Mission School principal P.C. Bhatacharjee was the chief guest.

Inauguration

The state office of Human Needs and Human Rights (HNHR), a non-government organisation, was inaugurated on Sunday. Organisation vice president Satbir Singh Gill said apart from working for the upliftment of the deprived, HNHR will also make women aware of their social and legal rights. HNHR will also spread awareness among people, especially youths, about AIDS and its prevention, he said.

One arrested

One Mukesh Amin was arrested for allegedly burgaling the house of Kashi Prasad Mishra at Sitaramdera on Sunday. Amin and three of his associates had burgled Mishra’s house and decamped with valuables and cash worth Rs 1.1 lakh. The accused were local residents and the landlord had spotted them committing the crime.

Renamed

Tata-Yodogawa Limited has been renamed as Tayo Rolls Limited. Company secretary G. Vaidyanathan said the name change will be effective from September 9.

Scholarship

Anthra Technologies announced its first Vigyan Scholarship on Friday. The scholarship was given to three Class 10 students of the city. The winners include Prateek and Anuj Kumar. They will get Rs 500 and Rs 250 each month for a year.

Wasp bite death

One CRPF inspector died and 20 policemen were injured in a wasp attack in forest in Rourkela. The team were conducting a combing operation in the Orissa-Jharkhand border for MCC activists.
