Ranchi: A 55-year-old woman's right hand and leg had to be amputated after she was hit by a truck at Dumardaga under Khelgaon police station on Saturday morning.
Vegetable seller Somari Devi, who was operated on at RIMS, is said to be critical.
Police said they were in the process of lodging an FIR against the driver and cleaner of the truck who escaped after the incident.
The truck laden with stone dust, headed for Mahaveer Nagar, has been seized.
"The vehicle, which was negotiating a narrow road, hit Somari Devi who was coming from the opposite direction. Instead of slamming the brakes to let the woman pass, the driver kept on moving and hit Somari Devi whose right hand and leg were crushed under its wheels," the Khelgaon police officer, who rushed her to the hospital soon after the incident, said.
Khelgaon OC Tarik Anwar said police would lodge an FIR under Section 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by an act endangering life or personal safety of others).
"We could not record the victim's statement because her condition is very critical. If she dies, other sections will also be added to the FIR," Anwar said, adding that police were trying to trace eye-witnesses and get their statements.
