Hazaribagh: The bustling District More Chowk, located at the intersection of NH-33 and NH-100, is set to get a facelift followed by the construction of four link roads that will ease traffic load on this busy stretch.

A proposal to this effect has been sent to the state government last week.

From Monday, illegal encroachments on both sides of the NH-33 and NH-100 are being removed under the supervision of sadar SDO Aditya Ranjan.

PWD executive engineer in Hazaribagh, Tuntun Singh, said they planned to widen the stretch to construct a roundabout and four link roads. The entire project will require 1 acre and 16 decimal land belonging to various government departments such as mines board, district board, sales tax and district collectorate.

Sources said DC Ravi Shankar Shukla, who had taken the initiative to beautify the prominent chowk of the town, had written to these departments for their no-objection certificate (NOC) to begin work.

Divulging more details about the link roads, sources said vehicles coming from Ranchi would have to take the road constructed on the district collectorate land and pass from behind B.R. Ambedkar's statue to proceed to the town. The second road will enable vehicles from Ranchi to go directly to NH-100 via the PTC (police training college) mess area. While the third road via Chand Kothi area will serve vehicles coming from GT Road or Patna and heading towards NH-100, the fourth one will enable them to go to the town.

Singh said once land was made available, they would hire a consultant to prepare a detailed project report.

He said work on the chowk was expected to start in 2-3 months. "It will be an attractive roundabout with proper signals, traffic lights, sign boards and a fountain," he added.
