Jamshedpur, Sept. 9: Come September 14 and the hand-crafted designer textiles will make a style statement in the steel city.

With refreshing designs, Srejoni, a Calcutta-based boutique is all set to showcase its collection at a three-day exhibition-cum-sale at Telco Club.

A brainchild of designer Arpita Chatterjee, Srejoni houses handcraft items designed by weavers of Bengal, Orissa and Bangladesh. The 35-year-old Chatterjee, who has no formal training in design, believes that it was her passion for her handcraft that has brought her so far.

“I am looking forward to displaying my collection in Jamshedpur. We have not used any machine or synthetic products. All my designs are made using best quality fabric,” said Chatterjee.

According to Chatterjee, all products are hand-woven and original forms of kantha, kashmiri and parsi embroidery has been used. The price of the products will range between Rs 900 and Rs 18,000.

Block printing is the main forte of the designer. At Srejoni one can find a myriad collection of block-printed saris and salwar suits in tussar, silk, chiffon, georgette, cotton and kota. Often prints are combined with similar embroidery.

The designer’s close association with the master weavers of the region is reflected in the ornamental bomkai and Dhakai jamdani saris.

The boutique caters to a wide cross-section of people and has a strong client base not only from Calcutta but also the United States, UK, Australia and Kuwait. Chatterjee has participated in exhibitions like the North American Bengali conference in the US and the Blind School Diwali Bazaar in Delhi.
