Gulmohar cagers excel

Jamshedpur, Oct. 25: Gulmohar High School and Hill Top School will clash in the finals of the inter-school basketball championship being played at Sumant Moolgaonkar Stadium in Telco.

In the only match played today, Gulmohar High School defeated Shiksha Niketan School 18-13. Abdul displayed a fine performance to emerge with the highest score for his team.

Vishal Kumar of Shiksha Niketan was the only bright spot in the losing team's show. He scored eight points. The final will b played tomorrow from 3 pm.

Five schools — Hill Top, Gulmohar, Shiksha Niketan, Gopabandhu Vidyapeeth and Chinmaya Vidyalaya — are participating in the championship which kicked-off yesterday.

In the matches played yesterday, Hill Top thrashed Gopabandhu Vidyapeeth 31-2 while Shiksha Niketan beat Gulmohar 23-11.

The championship is organised by Tata Engineering sports department.

According to R Ramesan, senior sports officer, Tata Engineering, the Inter-school Volleyball Championship will commence at the same venue from October 28.

He said six schools, including Asha Kiran School, Vig English School, Gulmohar, Hill Top, Shiksha Niketan and Gopabandhu Vidyapeeth would participate in the championship.

Women's inter-district cricket: Jamshedpur and Hazaribagh won their respective matches in the third inter-district women's cricket tournament being played here at the G Town grounds today.
