The picturesque Jubilee Park — a popular picnic spot and a hangout destination — will soon get a cousin.
Much to the delight of people residing on the eastern fringes of the steel city, Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (Jusco), a Tata Steel subsidiary, is developing a park-cum-picnic spot in Nildih. In all likelihood, the new green address will be gifted to the residents during the birth anniversary celebrations of JN Tata, which is also observed as Founder’s Day, in March.
Unlike Jubilee Park, cooking will be allowed at the Nildih park, spread over six acres. It will also boast well-lit fountains, garden with landscape, children’s corner and toilets. There will be a jogging track too along with spacious parking lot for two-wheelers and four-wheelers.
“We decided to create another picnic spot in the city to ease off the pressure on Jubilee Park, which spills with revellers during festive season. People residing in Telco, Golmuri, Baridih and Sidhgora can visit the proposed park as it will be near their homes,” said Rajesh Rajan, spokesperson of Jusco.
Rajan revealed that the ground where the park is coming up was earlier occupied by encroachers and was a den of criminals.
“The area has been made free from illegal settlers now,” he said.
According to him, work is going on in full steam to ensure that the park was ready by March for inauguration. “Efforts are also being made to provide wooden chairs at the park so that visitors can sit and relax,” he said.
The horticulture department of Jusco has been entrusted with the job of ensuring proper plantation of flowers and other plants. Head of horticulture services B.N. Mohanty said much care had been taken to design the park.
Sources in the utility company informed that a few acres had been kept vacant for further expansion in the future.
