
Bokaro, Jan. 28: Governor Droupadi Murmu was today served green tea that had crossed its expiry date during her visit to a centre for differently abled children in Sector V of Bokaro steel city. But an alert team of doctors accompanying her saved the day by detecting the gaffe on time.
The governor was on a daylong trip to Bokaro during which she visited three educational institutes - Asha Lata Kendra, Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Chas, and Prajapati Brahma Kumaris Iswariya Vishwa Vidyalaya.
At Asha Lata Kendra, she expressed her desire to have herbal tea. A leading restaurant of Bokaro, in-charge of catering there, served her green tea from a packet that mentioned the packaging date as August 22, 2015.
Dr Sanjay Kumar, who was leading the team of doctors that saw the date and raised an alarm, said the tea could be used within 15 months. But as per the packaging date, the teabags were 17 months old.
Bokaro DC R.M. Ray, who was present at the spot, asked for replacement of the tea. He also ordered a probe.
A separate inquiry is being carried out by the special branch of Jharkhand police, which will submit its report to the state government tomorrow.
Murmu also visited Brahma Kumaris institute, where she inaugurated its Rajyoga Bhavan. The governor's last stop was Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalya.
Addressing over 800 girls and teachers, she quoted a Sanskrit shloka as the success mantra of life: "Kak chesta, bako dhyanam, swan nidra tathaiwa cha, alpahari, grihatyagi, vidyarthi pancha lakshanam."
She explained the meaning too: "Every student should have five qualities - repetitive efforts of a crow, concentration of a crane and alert naps of a dog, eat less and be ready to leave home for better education."
"Student's life is like tapasya. Your parents have put you in a good school like this and you all must take advantage of the best atmosphere." strong character, and valuerespect and honour in life," she told the girls.
