Jamshedpur, July 8: Students interested in taking admission in Jamshedpur Workers’ College can look forward to opt for various vocational courses from the next academic session.
The college has decided to introduce a three-year course on Bachelor in Physical Education. Apart from this, four new courses on electronics, human rights, cyber laws and public administration would be on offer for students. The students enrol themselves for the course along with the degree courses.
Principal of the college S.S. Razi said that the three-year course on Bachelor in Physical Education would require a nod from the University Grants Commission (UGC). “This year we had sent a proposal for introducing the course to UGC. We are pursuing the matter with UGC and are hopeful of getting their approval soon,” he said.
Razi said that if the UGC gives a nod, the college would be the first constituent unit of Ranchi University to introduce a course on physical education. “We are trying to get a tag of vocational college and hence taking necessary initiatives in this regard,” Razi said.
The college which was accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in the year 2004 has again applied to NAAC for improving the grading.
The students and faculty members have welcomed the steps of the college administration to introduce a course on Bachelor in Physical Education.
“There are numerous students who would be interested in pursuing the course. Those interested in sports would like to opt for the course as it would give them a degree and help them in their future endeavours. Students with a degree on the subject will definitely get a preference in sports related jobs,” said a senior professor of the college.
