Cop cleared of graft slur

The police on Thursday dismissed the charges against Itkhori police station, Sachin Das, of taking a bribe to release hotelier Santosh Ram, owner of Hotel Sai Palace in Itkhori.

On Tuesday midnight a wedding procession had arrived in Itkhori from Bhaluwachatti village under Barachatti police station of Gaya district in Bihar.

Trouble started when a few baratis (participants in the wedding procession) returned late on Tuesday night to the hotel but found the gate locked.

Hotel owners Santosh Ram and brother Deepak refused to open the gate, resulting in a clash, in which one Murari Prasad Kesri was injured. Murari lodged an FIR at Itkhori police station on Wednesday, charging the hotel owners and others with attacking him and his men with sharp-edged weapons.

Santosh, on the other hand, charged the police for assaulting him at the police station after his arrest on the basis of Murari’s FIR against him.

He accused the officer-in-charge of Itkhori police station, Sachin Das, of taking Rs 1 lakh from him for his release.

Chatra superintendent of police Rishabh Jha told The Telegraph Online that the hotelier’s was found false. “We also came through seven cases lodged against both brothers related to land grabbing. We will continue investigating this case,” said Jha.
