An indoor shooting range for NCC cadets was inaugurated at the headquarters of 3 Jharkhand Battalion NCC at Morabadi in Ranchi on Tuesday by the additional director general of Bihar-Jharkhand directorate of NCC Major General Shammi Sabharwal
The range will allow cadets to sharpen their shooting skills, training their sights from a distance of 10m with.22 rifle, the standard issue for NCC cadets.
So far the city cadets have been practising at the outdoor range at Bariatu.
Explaining the rationale behind the setting up of the range, Major General Sabharwal said, 'With urbanization, finding space for outdoor firing has become difficult. Plus, a lot of precaution has to be taken for shooting practice at outdoor firing ranges. Keeping all this in mind, this firing range has been established. Here, a cadet can practise round the clock without any problem. It will benefit the NCC cadets to excel at state and national level competitions.'
The range allows three cadets to practice at a time. Others can wait for their turn at an adjacent waiting area. Fifteen instructors will guide the cadets at the range.
Three NCC cadets from St Xavier's College, Shipra Sehal (B.A. Part II), Balendu Tiwari (B.A. Part II) and Pankaj Kumar Sahu (B.A. Part II), exhibited their shooting skills at the newly inaugurated range, earning appreciation from Major General Sabharwal, who asked them to continue regular practice to excel at national events.
